How to choose a storage facility

Storage is always a problem for many people, as many of the homes they rent or own just don’t have enough room for them to keep the items they do not currently use, but are not ready to give up on either. Whether you are looking for a long-term storage unit or you just want to find some temporary storage spaces in North London to keep your belongings until you manage to move to a new home, here are the things you should keep in mind before renting a storage unit:

Size

This is one of the first aspects you should ask about. Think of the items you want to store and you will have an estimate of what size you want your storage unit to have. After that, you only need to start looking for storage facilities that can offer you units in the right size. If you don’t need storage for a very long time, you can even ask the removal company that you are collaborating with, as many of these companies offer their clients a temporary storage space.

Location

For many people, the concept of good location can vary. Ideally it should be closer to their home, but sometimes it is worth it to drive a little further if you pay a few pounds less on the rent every month. Another thing to look for is whether or not the storage spaces are in a quiet neighbourhood or by a freeway. Sometimes, storage spaces by the freeway can be harder to access, especially during the rush hour when everyone is trying to get from one place to another using their cars.

Security

This also depends on what you want to store and whether or not you want to have access to your belongings at all times. For instance, supervised storage facilities are closed during the night, so if you want to load or unload some of your items, you will only be able to do it during the day. At the same time, if you appreciate the extra security because you are planning to store valuable items, this will be something that will benefit you.

Cleanliness

This certainly is a factor that should concern everyone. No matter what you are trying to store, you want to make sure that you will find everything exactly as you left it and not with a thick amount of dust on top of it or with damages from other problems. Have a look around the storage facility and see if you are satisfied with the level of cleanliness they can provide.

Last but not least, this is one of the aspects that will probably influence your decision the most. Every person has a budget they are willing to spend on storage, which is why you should look for a unit that not only meets your other requirements, but also your budget. Obviously, the bigger the storage unit, the more expensive it will be and you can always expect units with climate control and other features to be pricier than the rest.
